Brinson Foundation Funds 2015 Spring Learning Challenge

Springtime in the City blooms April 1st through April 17

Research indicates that children lose skills when school is out. Our long-time partners at The Brinson Foundation are committed to education and ensuring that our kids stay engaged in learning whether they're on – or off – of school.  That's why The Brinson Foundation is generously funding the 2015 Spring Learning Challenge: Springtime in the City.

Spring break is an optimal time to explore all the Library – and our city – have to offer and continue learning during time off. The program is a self-paced learning challenge that invites children to explore nature in their neighborhood by investigating the city and our surrounding environment.

To complete the challenge, children are encouraged to Read, Discover and Create. What plants are in bloom and which animals abound in Chicago in spring? What activities are available in springtime? Children explore these topics by Reading for 20 minutes a day for at least 5 days; Discovering new information about nature in their neighborhood by doing 1 activity; and Creating 1 story, poem or piece of artwork.

Starting April 1st, kids can track their progress by picking up a log from their neighborhood library or downloading the log at chipublib.org/springtime. Suggested books and activities are also available through the Chicago Public Library website on April 1st.

Kids who turn in their completed log to a neighborhood library by April 24 are entered in drawings to win books!

We thank our generous friends at The Brinson Foundation for their long-standing commitment to learning at the Chicago Public Library!
