Walmart Grants $75,000 For Teachers in the Library, CyberNavigators

Check presentation with Walmart Store Manager, Demetrius Williams and Pullman Branch Manager Lolita Griffin

Library Commissioner Brian Bannon, Library Foundation CEO Rhona Frazin, and Pullman Branch Manager Lolita Griffin were on hand for a check presentation on May 14 at the Pullman Branch of the Chicago Public Library accepting a $75,000 gift from Walmart store manager, Demetrius Williams.

The Chicago Library Foundation received $75,000 from the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program to fund two Teachers in the Library and two CyberNavigators.

Among the library’s most highly valued privately funding initiatives, Teachers in the Library provide free homework help to children of all ages in the important afterschool hours four days a week. CyberNavigators work 20 hours a week in branch libraries, helping children and adults with computer classes and one-on-one digital training. The vast majority of service requests come from people seeking jobs or career training and education opportunities. Others come to CyberNavigators for help with online and email access, health care, community engagement and public benefits.

“The Walmart Foundation is very pleased to continue to support the Chicago Public Library Foundation and is committed to help those in need in the communities where we serve,” said John Bisio of Walmart. “Through this grant, we are hopeful that everyone that visits the library is able to get the assistance they need whether it is for homework help or job search assistance.”

We thank Walmart for the steadfast investment in the people of Chicago!
