Celebrate National Library Week 2014

Read. Learn. Discover.

We celebrate National Library Week this week to draw attention to the important role that libraries, librarians and library staff members play in communities all across the country.

Today, Chicagoans have more reasons than ever to be proud of our wonderful Library, which was recently named as a finalist for the National Medal for Museum and Library Service by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. This medal is the highest national recognition bestowed upon a museum or library.

The Chicago Public Library Foundation is exceptionally proud of its role as the Library’s private funding partner for over 25 years. With investments totaling more than $50 million, donors to the Library Foundation have helped sustain the Library’s innovative programming and services, and world-class collections.

Would you like to participate in National Library Week? Here’s how:

  • Visit your local Chicago Public Library, either in person or online. Visit the Library's redesigned website. There, you can access downloadable magazines, create reading wish lists, and post reviews of books you've read. CPL's "best in class" website is made possible with $1 million in private support from the Library Foundation and its generous donors.
  • Participate in a Maker Lab workshop, where you can experiment with 3-D printers, laser cutters, and other technology tools. The Maker Lab opened in mid- 2013 with support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services via the Library Foundation.
  • Supporting your Chicago Public Library with a gift to the Chicago Public Library Foundation. Private funding makes popular programs like One Book, One ChicagoSummer Learning ChallengeTeachers in the Library and many more free and accessible to everyone.

Thank you for helping us celebrate the unique, imporant role libraries play in making our communities better places!
