Bookamania Again a Huge Success  5,000 participants took part in the Library's annual daylong celebration of children's books, learning and play that took place on Saturday, November 23. Bookamania welcomed 5,000 participants at Harold Washington Library who took part in a variety of activities throughout day. New features to Bookamania included parent workshops with Dr. Dana Suskind and the Thirty Million Words initiative offering tips for parents on how they can build their children's' brains and shape their futures simply by talking with them. 97% of parents/caregivers surveyed reported learning new ways to advance their child’s out of school time. CPL is continuing this effort through December with monthly family programs in all branches and on the library’s website. Bookamania is generously funded by Target, though the Chicago Public Library Foundation, who has been sponsoring the event for seven straight years! Thanks to Target for their longtime support and for providing over 300 volunteers who assisted with the celebration. |
