StoryCorps @ your library

Join us to share and record your stories about how you or your family made Chicago home and help us discover the place of migration in our city's history and culture.

Chicago Public Library has been selected by the American Library Association and StoryCorps to participate in a national pilot program called StoryCorps @ your library. Incorporating the current One Book, One Chicago program’s focus on how migration has shaped Chicago, CPL’s StoryCorps @ your library will be at 14 Library locations from May through October 2013.

With StoryCorps@ your library, CPL offers opportunities to tell your migration story as part of the current One Book, One Chicago program, which explores how migration has shaped—and continues to shape—Chicago. The current One Book, One Chicago selection is Isabel Wilkerson’s award-winning The Warmth of Other Sun: The Epic Story of America’s Great Migration.

StoryCorps is an independent nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide people of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share and preserve the stories of our lives. Since 2003, more than 40,000 everyday people have interviewed family and friends through StoryCorps, making it one of the largest oral history projects of its kind.

The book is just the beginning! Now through spring 2014, Chicago Public Library and its many community partners will offer multiple ways for every Chicagoan to explore how the drive to move, to migrate and to create a better life has made Chicago into the most American of American cities.

Share and record your migration story.

StoryCorps @ your library is a project of the American Library Association and StoryCorps. Funding for StoryCorps @ your library is provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Funding for One Book, One Chicago is provided by Allstate Insurance and BMO Harris Bank.
